香火

Incense /
Contemporary Bamboo Installation Art / Taiwan artist

Temples play a crucial role in Taiwanese society, serving not only as symbols of religious belief and cultural landmarks but also as focal points of communal emotions.

"Incense," presented at Shilin Shennong Temple, assumes multiple roles. Each wisp of burning incense symbolizes a delicate connection between deities and human hearts, reflecting reverence towards the divine and aspirations in life. These intertwining lines, with their fluid forms and ethereal visual imagery, guide worshippers into a realm of meditation and contemplation, creating a dynamic atmosphere for their communion with the divine.

Through this artwork, artist Lin Jing-Ge delves into the new roles and meanings of religious art in contemporary society. The piece becomes a bridge that connects the past and future, tradition and innovation, and humanity with the divine, embodying the profound integration of Taiwan's traditional culture and temple beliefs.

In the temple's three courtyards, each is adorned with unique forms and symbolic representations of "Incense and Worship" artworks: from left to right, symbolizing wealth with ingots, abundance with rice ears, and peace with the Grand Duke's Seal. As day turns to night and light dances across them, they weave enchanting scenes in the space.
